Know your blood group at home in Pune

Everyone should know of their blood group. It is crucial in the process of receiving a blood transfusion. Knowing our blood group makes it easier to choose the right blood for transfusion in case of emergencies or accidents.

Plasma fluid, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets all make up a human blood. All of these blood cells are crucial for regulation, protection, and oxygen movement. Our red blood cells, or erythrocytes, have antigens and antibodies on their surface that play a major role in determining which blood group we belong to.

Why knowing your blood group is so important?

In case of any emergency, accidents, major surgeries require blood transfusion. Wrong blood transfusion, that is, mismatch of donor and receiver blood group types leads to fatal transfusion reaction. This reaction is nothing but blood lysis (RBC breakdown) and blood clumping through antigen-antibody reaction. To avoid this fatal situation, one must know blood group.

What are the different Blood Group Types?

Blood comprises four main blood types: A, B, AB blood group, blood group O and two Rh types (positive, negative). The ABO grouping system is based on the type of antigens that is present on the surface of the red blood cells (RBCs).

  • Blood group A: The presence of Antigen A.

People with blood group A can donate blood to Group A and AB Group people.

  • Blood group B: The presence of Antigen B

People with blood group B can donate blood to Group B and AB people.

  • AB blood group: Presence of both Antigens A and B

People with AB blood group can only donate blood to same blood group people. But they are universal acceptors i.e. they can receive blood from any blood group person.

  • Blood group O: Absence of both Antigens

Because of absence of any antigen, they can donate blood to any person, making them Universal donors but can accept from same blood group type only.

What is Rh positive or negative blood groups?

Every blood group from ABO blood types is further classified into positive and negative blood groups, e.g. A positive or A negative etc.

It is directly related to presence or absence of Rh (Rhesus) antigen on the surface of blood cells.

What is the cost blood group test in pune?

At Pro Diagnostics, we provide blood group test at just ₹200. We also provide home sample collection.

What’s the rarest blood type?

As per the records, AB-negative is considered to be the rarest blood type.

Why Rh factor is important in pregnant women?

Rh-negative mothers who first had a Rh-positive baby might develop antibodies that may harm the Rh-positive baby during the second pregnancy, leading to severe anemia and also death of the baby.

After the birth of a Rhesus positive infant, Rhesus negative women are given an injection of anti‐D, which aims to prevent the women forming antibodies that would attack the red cells of a Rhesus positive baby in a future pregnancy.
